The red-veined dropwing (Trithemis arteriosa) wings have red veins and there is a large amber-coloured patch at the base of the hind wings. The pterostigmas are dark brown. The female thorax is whitish with thick black lines on the side. The red veined dropping is found in most of Africa and extends to western Asia and southern Europe.
