The Pacific emerald dove (Chalcophaps longirostris) is a stocky, medium-sized pigeon featuring brilliant, shimmering emerald-green wings, a bright red bill, and a terrestrial lifestyle spanning from Indonesia through New Guinea and coastal Australia. Despite its dazzling appearance, the iridescent emerald green wings and back act as perfect camouflage against the sun-dappled floors of tropical rainforests. In flight, it reveals unexpected, contrasting black and white bars across its lower back. Its native predator is the southern cassowary.
