The mute swan (Cygnus olor) is named because it is less vocal than other swan species. A member of the waterfowl family Anatidae, it is native to much of Eurasia, and (as a rare winter visitor) the far north of Africa. It has a long S-shaped neck, and an orange bill with black at the base of it.
