There are two species of gorilla – the eastern gorilla (Gorilla beringei) and western gorilla (Gorilla gorilla). The Silverback Gorilla is the name given to the adult male gorilla because of the silvery fur running across its backs and hips. The largest and strongest of all primates, the gorillas is a ground-dwelling, predominantly herbivorous ape that inhabits the forests of central Sub-Saharan Africa. The gorilla diet mostly consists of bamboo, fruit and leafy plants, though western lowland gorillas also eat small insects. In the wild, a gorilla’s lifespan is around 35-40 years. the gorilla shares share 98.3% of its genetic code with humans – it has unique fingerprints and also unique noseprints used to identify individuals by the nostrils and the bridge of the nose. the gorilla displays many human-like behaviours and emotions, such as laughter and sadness. It even makes its own tools to help them survive in the forest.
