The red-bellied fruit dove (Ptilinopus greyi) has a bright purplish-red patch on its lower belly. Both sexes have a red crown and abdominal patch, but the female's patch is slightly smaller, and juveniles have no patch. Typically living in pairs, it often hangs upside down to pluck fruit - its primary food source. Figs are a particular favourite. The red-bellied fruit dove is found in lowland forests in New Caledonia, the Santa Cruz Islands, and Vanuatu.
