Marsh owls (Asio capensis), known for their preference for marshes and grasslands, are medium-sized, brown owls, often found in pairs or alone, and are known to be monogamous and territorial. They can be active both during the day and at night, especially on cloudy days. Marsh Owls have a fragmented distribution primarily in sub-Saharan Africa, with isolated populations in Morocco and Madagascar. They inhabit a variety of open habitats, including moist grasslands, marshes, and savannas, often near vleis (wetlands) or dams.
