The Ethiopian oriole (Oriolus monacha) is endemic to Ethiopia and Eritrea, where its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical dry forests in the highlands. Its range overlaps marginally in the SW with the slightly smaller Black-headed Oriole – best distinguished from it by grey (not whitish) edges to its outer secondaries and green (not yellowish) edges to inner secondaries. The juvenile is duller and slightly streaked. Alternate names for the Ethiopian oriole include the Abyssinian black-headed oriole, Abyssinian oriole, black-headed forest oriole, dark-headed oriole, Ethiopian black-headed oriole, Ethiopian forest oriole and forest oriole.
