The golden-breasted starling (Lamprotornis regius) is named for its bright, golden-yellow breast and belly. It is also known as the royal starling for its regal and vibrant appearance, which includes a metallic green head and violet-blue wings. It prefers grasslands, savannahs, acacia thickets, and dry-thorn forests across north-eastern Africa, including Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya, and northern Tanzania. Unlike most other starlings, they primarily eat insects, especially termites, which they access by using their beaks to break open mounds.
