The white-collared pigeon (Columba albitorques) is unmistakable with its uniform greyish colour, white collar patch and, in flight, white on the wings. It is the dominant pigeon on the plateau above 2,400 meters (8,000 feet) and has an obvious white hindcollar contrasting with a dark slate head. Endemic to the Ethiopian highlands in Eritrea and Ethiopia, it occupies countryside surrounding rocky cliffs and gorges.
