Gaur (Bos gaurus), also known as Indian bison, is a big relative of the cow, being a bovine itself, and is the largest known wild cattle on the planet. Native to the Indian Subcontinent and Southeast Asia, both sexes bear horns that are yellow with black tips. There are two subspecies of gaur – Bos gaurus gaurus in India and Nepal, and Bos gaurus laosiensis in Myanmar, Lao PDR, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, and West Malaysia. An extinct subspecies, Bos gaurus sinhaleyus, lived on Sri Lanka.
