The Madagascar ibis or Western Madagascar crested ibis (Lophotibis cristata) is endemic to the island of Madagascar, specifically residing in its coastal forests and wetlands. It is the only member in the genus Lophotibis, making it a unique species in the ibis family. It is known for being very vocal and loud, often emitting a long, whining, or wheezy series of notes, particularly at dawn and dusk. During courtship, they display their long, glossy crests and white wing patches to potential mates.
