The blue-spotted wood dove (Turtur afer) is named for the distinctive dark blue/black glossy patches on its wings. It is widespread in a belt across Africa just south of the Sahara Desert. Also known as the Abyssinian or Senegal Blue-spotted Wood Dove, it is found in woodland and scrublands close to water.
