The chestnut-eared aracari (Pteroglossus castanotis) has distinctive rich brown, chestnut-coloured feathers located over its ear openings. Aracari is derived from the Tupi language word "Arassari," used by the 17th-century German naturalist Georg Marcgrave to name this type of bird. The Chestnut-eared Aracari's habitat is the tropical and flooded forests of the Amazon Basin, extending from the eastern Andean foothills into parts of Colombia, Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay, and Argentina. It prefers moist forest habitats, including wet forests, várzea (flooded forest), river islands, swampy areas, gallery forests, and can also be found in secondary forests, edges, clearings, dense bamboo thickets, and plantations.
