The blue whistling thrush (Myophonus caeruleus) has a loud clear whistle. It is dark purple/blue with tiny silvery spots on head, back, and wings. Usually found singly or in pairs, it hops on rocks and moves about in quick spurts. It turns over leaves and small stones, cocking its head and checking for movements of prey. When alarmed it spreads and droops its tail. It is found in temperate forests and subtropical or tropical moist montane forests in the Himalayas and along the Tian Shan.
