The Siberian tiger (Panthera tigris tigris), which is reddish-rusty, or rusty-yellow with narrow black transverse stripes, once inhabited the eastern part of Siberia but now lives mainly in the Sikhote Alin mountain region in the Russian Far East. It is genetically close to the Caspian tiger of Central and Western Asia. The Siberian tiger was also called Amur tiger, Manchurian tiger, Korean tiger,and Ussurian tiger, depending on the region where individuals were observed.
