The white-crested laughingthrush (Garrulax leucolophus) is named after its characteristic white hood and raised crest – as well as its loud call that sound just like laughter. It is also easily recognisable due to its broad and elongated black eye-mask. Females are similar to males but have a smaller crest. It is found in forest and scrub from the teak and bamboo-covered Himalayan foothills to South-east Asia.
