The exclusively coastal western reef heron (Egretta gularis) – also called the western reef egret – is a medium-sized heron found mainly along the seaboards of tropical western Africa, the Red Sea, the Persian Gulf, and east to India. Its legs are black with yellow feet. The western reef-heron forages mainly over shallow water and mud searching for its a diet of fish, crustaceans and molluscs.
