The jacamars are a family, Galbulidae, of near passerine birds from tropical South and Central America. They are elegant brightly coloured birds with long bills and tails. One bird is the rufous-tailed jacamar (Galbula ruficauda). These fantastic wee birds look like giant hummingbirds but in fact are distant relatives of woodpeckers.
