Buffy helmetcrest
The bearded helmetcrests (Oxypogon) are a genus of hummingbird in the family Trochilidae found in Colombia and Venezuela. Originally one species – the bearded helmet crest – it is now split into four: White-bearded helmetcrest, (Oxypogon lindenii); Green-bearded helmetcrest, (Oxypogon guerinii); Blue-bearded helmetcrest, (Oxypogon cyanolaemus); Buffy helmetcrest (Oxypogon stuebelii).
The vulnerable buffy helmetcrest (Oxypogon stuebelii) is a species of hummingbird found only in the paramo of the Central Andes of Colombia. The buffy helmetcrest was formerly considered to be a subspecies of what was known as the bearded helmetcrest (Oxypogon guerinii). It was promoted to species status when the bearded helmetcrest was split into four species based on a study of biometric and plumage data published in 2013. The nominate subspecies was renamed the green-bearded helmetcrest.
