The Red titi monkey (Plecturocebus cupreus) name titi comes from Spanish, which in turn is derived from an Aymaran word meaning "little cat". Monogamous primates, mating for life in family groups, they are arboreal, living in South American tropical forests – mainly Brazil, Colombia, and Peru – and have a diverse omnivorous diet of fruits, insects, and leaves, and rarely come to the ground. Also known as the coppery titi monkey, they use their tails to intertwine as a bonding behaviour, and males primarily care for infants, carrying them on their backs for extended periods. Male and female titi monkey pairs perform complex duets, which are vocal calls used to mark their territory and warn off other monkeys.
