The reed cormorant (Microcarbo africanus), also known as the long-tailed cormorant, frequents numerous freshwater habitats including temporary flooded areas with reeds. A small, short-billed, long-tailed cormorant, the bare facial skin is red to orange and finely spotted black. Though it usually feeds in shallow water it can dive to considerable depths. It is found in sub-Saharan Africa.
