Lesson's seedeater (Sporophila bouvronides) gets its common name from René Primevère Lesson, a French naturalist who first described the species in 1831. It is a migratory bird with a breeding range primarily in northern South America, extending to the Guianas, and a non-breeding range in western Amazonia. It forages in the shrubbery of forest edges, river scrub, and mixed grassland. It is very similar to the Lined Seedeater but is distinguished by a solid black crown which lacks the white central coronal stripe of the Lined.
