The plum-headed finch (Emblema modestum) is named after the male's forehead and crown, which are a dark, rich reddish-brown, similar to the colour of a plum. Also known as the cherry finch, it is endemic to Australia, inhabiting drier inland areas of eastern Queensland and New South Wales, favouring open woodlands, dry grasslands, and thickets near watercourses, often forming flocks in tall grass, reeds, and even gardens.
