The bar-tailed treecreeper (Certhia himalayana), or the Himalayan treecreeper has well-defined dark bars on its tail distinguishing it from similar relatives in its range. It has a flecked or striped feather pattern, usually in black, brown, white and red hues, which helps it blend in with its forest surroundings. It also has the longest bill in genus. It inhabits high-altitude coniferous and mixed forests in Afghanistan, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Myanmar, Nepal, Tibet, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.
