The large green scaly-bellied woodpecker (Picus squamatus) has a black-and-white scaly pattern running from the belly to the tail. The male has a red corwn, the female a blackish crown. Found in the Indian subcontinent and adjoining regions, ranging across Afghanistan, Iran, India, Nepal, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan, it is similar to the Streak-throated Woodpecker, but the Scaly-bellied Woodpecker has an unmarked throat and breast.
