The West Indian whistling duck (Dendrocygna arborea), also known as the black-billed whistling duck and Cuban whistling duck, is the largest of the eight species of Whistling Duck to be found in the world. It breeds in the Caribbean and is widespread throughout the West Indies and in the Bahamas. Its Latin name, Dendrocygna arborea, means tree-swan, recognising the fact that it spends a great deal of daylight time in trees as it is normally a night feeder.
