The white-tipped dove (Leptotila verreauxi) is named for the white tips on the outer edges of its tail, though these tips are not always easy to see unless the dove is in flight. It takes its scientific name from the French naturalists Jules and Edouard Verreaux. It can be found throughout much of South America and Central America as well as areas of the Caribbean foraging on the forest floors in both tropical and subtropical environments.
