The black-faced tanager (Schistochlamys melanopis) has a distinct black head, face, and bib. Unlike many tanagers which prefer dense, humid forests, the Black-faced Tanager is an "open-space specialist – it prefers open habitats like savannahs, scrublands, and forest edges that have a mix of trees and grass. It is widespread across northern South America, from countries like Colombia and Venezuela to Brazil and Peru.
