The yellow-spotted petronia (Gymnoris pyrgita) is named for the small, yellow spot at the base of its white throat, which is only visible under ideal conditions. It is common throughout the Sahel and the Horn of Africa. Also known as the yellow-spotted bush sparrow its natural habitats are dry savannah and subtropical or tropical dry lowland grassland. It lacks the pale supercillium of the similar yellow-throated petronia.
