The Bananaquit (Coereba flaveola) is a small honeycreeper (4-5 inches long), a common resident throughout the West Indies, and the Caribbean mainland from Southern Mexico south to southern Brazil and northeast Argentina. Locally known as the "chickadee of the Caribbean.", it is a lively little bird with blackish back and head, white stripe above the eye, and bright yellow belly. The Bananaquit inhabits a variety of habitats from scrubland to tropical lowland forest edge.
