The green aracari ( Pteroglossus viridis) is named because the bird's back, wings, and tail are covered in beautiful dark green feathers. Pteroglossus viridis, means "green feather-tongue," which refers to the green feathers on its back. Green aracaris are the smallest members of the toucan family and inhabit the tropical, lowland forests of north-eastern South America, including the Amazon Basin, the Guianas, and parts of Venezuela and Brazil, preferring tree canopies from sea level up to approximately 800 meters. Its beak has serrated, bread-knife-like edges which allows it to grip and hold fruit securely, even when it is round or slippery.
