The long-billed hermit (Phaethornis longirostris) has a distinctive facial striping, a long, decurved bill, and white extensions to its central tail feathers. It is a large hummingbird that is a resident breeder from central Mexico south to northwestern Colombia, extreme western Venezuela and western Ecuador. It gathers nectar from widely dispersed flowers and also catch spiders and insects.
