The Brown-headed barbet (Psilopogon zeylanicus), the largest barbet in India and Sri Lanka, is a green and brown barbet with prominent pale streaks on its brown head and breast. It is native to the Indian subcontinent, where it inhabits tropical and subtropical moist broadleaf forests. It is one of the most familiar sounds of India: loud and monotonous through the year, and most persistent from January to June. Barbets can walk vertically up and down the trunk and branches.
