Amongst the heaviest ducks in the world, The Fuegian steamer duck (Tachyeres pteneres) has short spurred wings used to paddle across the water, giving it the appearance of a steamer boat often at considerable speed when they are escaping danger or fighting with each other. A flightless bird native to the southern part of Chile and Argentina, specifically the region of Tierra del Fuego - hence Fuegian – it is infamous for the aggressive disposition of adult males. It is also known as the Magellanic steamer duck, a region in South America known for its unique flora and fauna. It nests near water obscured in dense, shrubby vegetation or in abandoned penguin nest burrows in September through December.
