Endemic to East Africa, the golden-backed weaver (Ploceus jacksoni), is also known as Jackson's weaver – after Englishman Frederick John Jackson (1860-1929) Governor of Uganda 1911-1917, naturalist, collector, author, explorer and ornithologist. It is a species of bird in the family Ploceidae.
