The noisy blue-headed parrot, also known as the blue-headed pionus (Pionus menstruus), has a bright blue head and upper breast, a green body, and a triangular patch of bright red feathers around the vent. Males and females look alike – young birds have less blue on their heads, which gradually develops as they mature. It is found in humid lowland tropical forests, forest edges, and semi-open country from southern Mexico through Central America and across northern South America, including the Amazon Basin and Brazil's Atlantic coast.
