The African green pigeon (Treron calvus) is a species of bird in the family Columbidae, and one of five green pigeon species in the Afrotropics. It is found from Senegal to east Africa, extending south to southern Africa, where it is fairly common in a wide variety of habitats. It mainly eats fruit, as well as very small quantities of seeds. As with others in its genus, it frequents tree canopies where its parrot-like climbing ability enables it to reach fruit – but it rarely forages on the ground.
