The yellow-mantled widowbird (Euplectes macroura), also known as the yellow-backed widow, is of the type originally named for the city of Ouidah in Benin. Males are larger than females and acquire longer tails and striking black and golden yellow plumages in the breeding season. The Yellow-mantled Widowbird is is found in moist grassland and marsh in tropical Africa from Senegal and Gambia south to Angola and east to South Sudan and western Mozambique.
