The red junglefowl (Gallus gallus) lives in areas with lots of scrub, secondary forest, and mangroves. With a much smaller body than most domesticated chickens, Red Junglefowl also has a lifespan of between 10 – 30 years. The Red Junglefowl can fly for short distances and roosts in trees to avoid predators. Formerly known as the bankiva or bankiva fowl, it is found across much of Southeast Asia and parts of South Asia. It has a mix of feather colours, with orange, brown, red, gold, grey, white, olive, and even metallic green plumage. The rooster tail can grow up to 28 centimetres (11 in), and the whole bird may be as long as 70 centimetres (28 in).
