The crested tit or European crested tit (Lophophanes cristatus) is named for its its spiky, punk-style crest which can be raised and folded back to varying lengths. Its bridled face pattern is predominantly white or cream with a black bib, thin black collar, with a thin black eyestripe that curves around and surrounds the ear coverts. It often feeds low down in trees in coniferous forests throughout central and northern Europe and in deciduous woodland in France and the Iberian peninsula. Scotland's special subspecies of crested tit is called Lophophanes cristatus scoticus.
