The woodpeckers, piculets, wrynecks, and sapsuckers are a family, Picidae, of near-passerine birds. There are about 200 known varieties worldwide, many of which are threatened or endangered. The largest variety of woodpecker is the Pileated Woodpecker ranging from 16-19 inches long – the smallest is the Bar-breasted piculet at around 3.25 in.
