The Red-throated Parrotfinch (Erythrura psittacea) gets its name from its distinctive red throat and its resemblance to a parrot – it has some facial markings and colouration that are reminiscent of certain parrot species. A small, vibrant finch native to New Caledonia , a French territory in the southwestern Pacific Ocean, and the nearby Isle of Pines, it prefers wooded areas, including forest edges, scrublands, and grasslands, and feeds on green (unripe) grass seeds, fruits, and insects.
