The Sumatran laughingthrush (Garrulax bicolor), also known as the black-and-white laughingthrush, is an endangered bird endemic to the Indonesian island of Sumatra's mountains, known for its elegant black and white plumage and its complex, laughter-like calls used for social communication. It is threatened by intensive trapping for the illegal caged-bird trade and ongoing habitat loss. Its distribution is now restricted, with localized populations in North Sumatra, and it prefers the dense, moist forest understorey and secondary growth near clearings.
