The Asian koel (Eudynamys scolopaceus) is a member of the cuckoo order of birds found in the Indian Subcontinent, China, and Southeast Asia. Like many other cuckoos, it is a brood parasite that lays its eggs in the nests of other birds, who raise its young – particularly crows, as the Asian Koel's egg is similar in colour to the crow's eggs. The bird is a widely used symbol in Indian poetry.
