The African jacana (Actophilornis africanus) is a wader in the family Jacanidae, identifiable by huge, grey feet and claws that enables it to walk on lagoons, swamps and marshes, where there are lily pads and other floating vegetation. Non-migratory, it is nomadic, often moving in search of new temporary wetlands. Jacanas are found worldwide within the tropical zone, and this species is found in sub-saharan Africa.
