The Spot-billed pelican (Pelecanus philippensis) or grey pelican has a large, spotted bill - which gives this relatively small pelican its common name. It is mostly white, with a grey crest, hindneck and with beautiful brownish tail. It breeds in southern Asia from southern Pakistan across India east to Indonesia. It is a bird of large inland and coastal waters, especially large lakes. Following a widespread decline, they are now mostly confined to India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia and Thailand.
