The Patagonian crested duck (Lophonetta specularioides specularioides), is named after Patagonia, the sparsely populated region located at the southern end of South America, shared by Argentina and Chile. Also known as the southern crested duck, or the grey duck in the Falkland Islands, it is a dabbling duck – swimming and feeding from the surface of the water. It is a sub-species of the crested duck. The Patagonian Crested Duck is slightly smaller than the Andean Crested duck.
