Native to New Guinea and adjacent islands, the collared imperial pigeon (Ducula mullerii) gets its name from a prominent full black collar that narrows at the front and meets the maroon back. It inhabits lowland rainforests, swamp forests, and mangroves in northern and southern New Guinea and the Aru Islands. The scientific name, Ducula mullerii, commemorates the German naturalist Salomon Müller (1804-1864).
