The Spotless Starling (Sturnus unicolor) has uniformly black plumage during the breeding season, with a lack of spotting, and distinct, shaggy throat feathers. It is a close relative of the Common Starling, but with a more restricted range primarily in the Iberian Peninsula, Northwest Africa, and some Mediterranean islands. Compared to the common starling, it has darker, oily-looking black plumage, slightly purple- or green-glossed in bright light, which is entirely spotless in spring and summer, and only with very small pale spots in winter plumage, formed by the pale tips of the feathers.
