The red-spectacled amazon (Amazona pretrei) is a species of parrot in the family Psittacidae. It is found in Argentina, Brazil, and Paraguay. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, dry savanna, and plantations. This parrot is now very rare and close to extinction due to habitat destruction and trapping for the pet trade. It produces very loud, spectacular exhibitions of acrobatics and noise when congregating for its nighttime roost. Hundreds of birds are seen grouping together.
